Ramas

branches  ·  a photographic series and video art

Branches are exits from the path. To go off on branches is to let oneself get lost. Ramas proposes a spatio-temporal drift through places emptied of people. Spaces that, without human presence or observation, behave differently than when we are there. Presence and observation, as in quantum phenomena, alter the state of things by themselves. And there receptivity appears, measure.

Ramas is an open experiment in Dérive, carried out by the author as a meditative practice, camera in hand. Guided through anonymous places, spaces never considered as blocks of space-time, in order to absorb the raw pulse of the planet as an entity in itself. Not to rationalize events in order to assign them importance, but to discover within them the pulse of reality, even beyond the planet itself.

There is a possibility of abstraction in art: to become a faithful representation of the infinite.

To provoke the act of depersonalization is to eliminate the limits of the body, displacing consciousness. And what is it that we call a person? An agglomeration of self-imposed statutes about what one is, and this has nothing to do with desire. In depersonalization, I carry desire into experience.

What would become of desire, relegated solely to the periphery of being?

Desire and essence are synonymous. Essence will become affect. The virtual charge of existence, its secrets, are actualized through acts of receptivity and intuition, in an instant that is always present, imploding upon the continuous present: a non-chronological time. Quotas of receptivity and action share continuous and variable states.

Here we go off on branches, on tangents, on crossings. Becoming is the child of an infinite map of anonymous events that await us there, they always await us there. The universe has a need to observe itself.

This is the precise foundation of the dual being that we are: capable of responding to the constant variability of becoming.

Performance and improvisation are defined by a degree of depersonalization. During the creative ideal, when one feels that is working, one is no longer entirely oneself.
